Brief introduction to Dr. Xiaojuan Cui:

Xiaojuan obtained her bachelor's degree from Hunan Normal University in 2008. In September of the same year, she entered the State Key Laboratory of Freshwater Ecology and Biotechnology of the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, under the guidance of Academician Zuoyan Zhu and Researcher Wei Hu, and was awarded the Ph.D. degree in genetics. In 2014, Xiaojuan joined Hunan University of Science and Technology as a lecturer in the Department of Biological Science.

Her research interests focus on the assessment of population size and genetic resources of wild animals and the further exploration of molecular mechanisms related to economic traits. The research topics are related to two areas: 1) Using Forest musk deer, Pangolin, Mangshan pit viper and other rare animals as research materials, to investigate the geographical distribution, population number, habitat selection and genetic diversity of rare animals for providing scientific basis for the endangered level of rare animals and ecological protection. And according to the data abtained, try to establish a typical case of imitation ecological breeding, to lay a foundation for the wild release and population rejuvenation of rare animals. 2)Uncovering the molecular mechanism of sex determination in fish is another research topic. She revealed the mechanisms of temperature, hormones and other factors affecting the sex determination of fish, and provided new ideas for single-sex breeding of economic fish.
